Avoid Harming Nesting Birds
It is shorebird/seabird nesting season, and there is great potential for extensive negative impact on nesting birds if extreme caution is not taken. The FWC has developed a set of best management practices which should be shared with groups planning these type of clean-up events. Best Management Practices in Shorebird Nesting Areas
Oil-affected Wildlife
The Audubon Society and Tri-state Bird Rescue and Research (contracted by BP) will carry out joint wildlife rescue in Florida. Wildlife rescue is a complex and potentially dangerous undertaking. Animals must be rescued, transported, decontaminated and treated, housed, fed and cared for through several days and then released to a safe area.
Only people that have been trained and certified should work with oil-affected wildlife. People seeking training and wanting to help oil-affected wildlife should contact the Audubon Society, the BP Call Center, (866) 448-5816.
